Outrunners Youth was created seven years ago with a simple but powerful goal: to create a Hackney where no one was left behind.
Our aim was to ensure that no one was excluded from accessing the powerful benefits of running and exercise.
Since becoming a charity in 2020, we’ve expanded our outreach across the wider East London area, working with schools and communities in Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. We run multiple Schools Programmes, community youth running sessions, as well as trips and events for the young people we work with.
The young people we work with have incredible drive, energy, and creativity - but they don’t always get the opportunities they need to progress. Our youth sessions offer a supportive and inclusive environment where young people can learn new skills, make friends, and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
We’re proud to be partnered with Nike London as well as supported by The Mayor of London’s Go! London fund, Sport England, MOJU Drinks, SUMS, and many others. All of our programmes are led by qualified Youth Practitioners and supported by volunteers. They lead our fun and engaging sessions, whilst ensuring all of our young people's safety. All of our amazing Youth Practitioners, volunteers and staff members are DBS checked and have completed Safeguarding training.
If you’d like to sign a young person up for any of our sessions please use the contact form below.
Outrunners youth
schools programmes
We work in seven schools across East London, providing fun and dynamic PE lessons and after-school sessions that help to keep young people healthy, engaged, and having fun in a safe and supportive environment.
community outreach sessions
Our priority is to bring the life-changing benefits of running and movement into the lives of young people who might not typically have access to these. This principle sits at the heart of our Community Outreach Sessions. We run these sessions for two age groups:
8-13 year olds
We have two weekly sessions: Wednesdays 6-7pm in Hackney Central, and Thursdays 6-7pm in Hackney Wick. These sessions change to daytime during half-term and holidays.
13-18 year olds
We have weekly Sessions every Monday (excluding Bank Holidays)
6-7pm in Hackney Wick. These sessions change to daytime during half-term and holidays.
trips and events
We offer various trips and opportunities throughout the year, incorporating a variety of sports into our programmes in order to encourage young people to try new things - such as
yoga, HIIT, cycling and football.
We also get young people involved in races and events throughout the year in London, as well as running trips to running events outside of London, such as Black to the Trails in the Chiltern Hills.

From young people
“The Outrunners Youth Practitioners are amazing. They support my child and motivate her a lot. Before, she did not believe in herself that she could do any physical activities and it was very hard for me to motivate her. Since she joined Outrunners, she is driven to do more activities. Thank you, and carry on doing what you do!”
“The sessions are organised brilliantly and are really engaging for the children. They look forward to it every week and the coach is really attentive and flexible - he is loved by the kids!”
“Everyone is amazing, so friendly and very supportive.”
From parents
“We have noticed students feeling strong and confident in their running skills - not just in lessons but they are also running in lunchtime and breaktime.”
“Students have encouraged their friends to attend the after school club on Monday. The impact of the culture of running in school is unrecognisable - which is a real credit to The Outrunners.
The energy that the coaches have brought is incredible.”
“I am very happy with everything you are doing! The sessions have such a great balance between friendliness but also giving them a chance to seriously improve.”
